Final exam (MSc)
Information about the process of the final exam:
At the end
of the studies a diploma work must be submitted and a final exam must be
passed. All students must register for the final exam at the Registrar
Office. The deadline of the registration is announced on the web site of
the Faculty.
- The final exam is free in the semester when the student obtains the pre-degree certificate. In all further semesters the student must pay a fee.
- All students must attend the final exam at the selected time, which has been communicated to them. There must not be late arrivals!
- All parts of the final exam are closed for the public. Only students taking in part of the final exam and the Exam Board can be in the room.
- The final exam has two parts: diploma defense and theoretical, oral question-answer session. These two parts may take place on one or two following days.
- Please bring an ID card (Student card, Passport) with you to identify yourself.
During the final exam the diploma work must be defended.
- The diploma work is evaluated by two reviewers. These reviews are available for the students before the final exam, therefore it is advised that the questions in the reviews are answered in the presentation.
- The marks given by the reviewers are only suggestions for the Exam Board. The final mark of the diploma work may receive a higher or lower mark, given by the Exam Board based on the reviews, the presentation and the answers of the student.
- Please prepare a 15 minute Powerpoint presentation at home, which describes your own work.
- The presentation must emphasize your contribution.
- The Exam Board may ask questions about the work of the student. These questions must be answered!
- The Exam Board will finally determine the mark for the diploma work.
- If the diploma work is not accepted by the Exam Board (the given mark is one (1) - Failure), then the final exam for the student is immediately terminated. Naturally this information is communicated to the student during the exam. For further steps see below.
Theoretical, oral exam
- A theoretical, oral question-answer session follows the defense of the diploma work. The student has to draw two topics from two different lists. The questions in the lists are shuffled. The drawing process is a blind selection. The questions cannot be changed after the drawing. (Of course there is a similar process for the specialisation.)
- No external devices or external help can be used during the preparation time! Therefore all mobile phones, smart watches, smart gadgets, devices must be switched off. All these devices and all bags must be deposited in an area selected by the Administrator of the Exam Board.
- The student can keep with himself/herself one pen, a small bottle of drink and a very small quantity of food (like chocolate). Nothing must be hidden in the bottle or the covering of the food.
- If any of the listed (or not listed) devices or any external help is discovered at any stage of the final exam, then the final exam is immediately terminated for the student and all results of the theoretical part are cancelled (except the diploma work defense). For further steps see below.
- The student should not leave the room during the theoretical exam. If the student has to leave the room for the bathroom, he/she has to ask permission from the Head of the Exam Board.
- To speed up the examination process the Exam Board is divided into group of experts. The drawn topic can be presented only to the appropriate group of experts.
- The student will have time to talk about the drawn topics. The Exam Board may ask further questions. Please note, that the topics are only starting points and the Exam Board may ask questions about any other topics. Therefore in an extreme case, even though the student has presented the answers for the drawn topic, but he/she is unable to answer any further questions, then this theoretical part may be failed.
- The marks for the theoretical part of the final exam are final. It is not possible to change them or improve them.
- At the end, the Exam Board will determine the final mark of the Diploma.
- Information about the results are not provided during exam. All results are announced at the end of the exam by the Head of the Exam Board. Results are also published on this web site.
- The decision of the Exam Board is FINAL. There is no retake of the final exam for a better mark.
- The only grounds for appeal are described in the Code of Study of the University.
- All results of the final exams are reported to the Registrar Office.
- The ceremonial presentation of the Diploma is organized by the Faculty at a separate time.
In the case of a failed, final exam:
- The
student must register for the new final exam at the next available time
(usually next semester). This registration is mandatory!
- If the student failed to present an acceptable diploma work then a new diploma work (new topic) must be prepared and submitted again.
- If the student fails the theoretical part of the final exam, then he/she has to repeat only the failed part during the next final exam. The successful defense of the diploma work and successful theoretical part of the final exam cannot be retaken.
